A Great Historical Perception

Many readers may view the English novelists of the turn of last century as sterile and dry. This is a mistake made by the newer generations who have been beguiled by television and modern film making. One gains understanding and perspective of the past through the eyes of various writers and we can begin to see that so many of our problems in this world are of our own making. The social constrictions, the injustices wrought by the well meaning guardians of society, even the arts and sciences can conspire against us. Yet the human condition remains today just as it was well over a hundred years ago.

This novel is the first in a series of writings, three novels and several shorter stories, that make up the Forsyte Saga, a serious reading of the change from Victorian to Edwardian England and beyond. For those who wish to become authors, a serious reading of these works reveals how stories may be told. For the more historical minded, one comes to appreciate the changes in society and how they are wrought. John Galsworthy is a splendid writer and worthy of reading on many different levels.

This book is a MAJOR disappointment!
I am a visual effects instructor and thought I had actually found a definitive volume for my beginning to intermediate students. In fact, upon initial review (I read the book, cover to cover), I was fully convinced that this book was it.
Clearly, the author knows his stuff, and conveys his knowledge to the beginning to intermediate VFX artist exceptionally well; very deserving of a 5-star rating, IMO.
Upon closer examination of the Bonus Content, i.e. the practice files, the book revealed itself to be virtually useless. The practice files are an empty promise! They are merely the book's publication images, in CMYK. While the examples that the author illustrates are very good, there is nothing available for the student or user to "Follow Along with" as described in the book's introduction.
Certainly, a resourceful student (or instructor) could create or otherwise acquire his or her own similar examples, but at a published price of $65, one would expect this book to deliver on it's claim of functional examples.
In the end, my stark criticism may be due to an honest oversight by the publisher and/or the author, but the book has been available (and in my hands) for a few months, and I have not seen any update to the downloadable content. I have repeatedly checked both the author's site, which seems to be a work in progress, and the publisher's site.
I hope that this matter will be remedied in the near future, until then, be aware that you will be paying a premium for non-existent materials.

This book is overflowing with great information on visual effects.

Jon’s explanations and examples of the various VFX tools and techniques are easy to digest and covered in a way that I believe beginners will love and professionals will appreciate. I like that the book isn't software specific and the examples given are in all of the major compositing programs like After Effects, NUKE and Fusion. I picked up some amazingly helpful techniques, one of my favorites being the advanced tracking strategies in chapter 3. This is the book I wish I had when I was getting into compositing and it will definitely be my go to resource on future VFX projects.

I’m impressed with just how much information is in this single book.

Dr. Jeremiah shares thoughts on various Scripture passages related to God's grace and writes a message that applies to everyone, believers or non-believers. The culmination of the book is a clear presentation of the depth of God's grace and how freely He desires to give it to each of us.

I found the book enlightening, inspiring. The book was easy to read and held my attention and interest well. Dr. Jeremiah's message of God's grace in relationship to the past, present and future, formatting the book in three sections, adds to the impression of how overwhelming, all-encompassing, and timeless God's grace truly is. I highly recommend this book to the reader who wants to grow deeper in their spiritual walk with God. Past all my failures to the point of my need. When the sin that I carried was all that I could see. And when I could not reach mercy. Mercy came a running to me!"
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man! I gleaned with handfuls on purpose from this wonderful book.
In chapter five, The Provision of Grace, Dr. Jeremiah talks about the minister, E. V. Hill. I absolutely love E.V. Hill. I heard him when he spoke at my college chapel many years ago. E.V. Hill makes the words of the Lord come a live! But this whole book is a true encouragement to the believer in many ways. The underlying theme of this book is grace but once you read this book you will "see" much more of God's love for you and that He provided the gift of GRACE so that you might have a rich and true life in Him.

Amazing Book about Grace!

Ever been in a religion where you have to do works - dress right, hair right, comply to man made rules etc to feel saved? Then you haven't experienced grace in its true capacity. This book changed my life, took away my judgement and condemnation of others and myself and reminded me that "His grace is sufficient".

A leading book in the field

Warren Keegan wrote the first international marketing textbook shortly after completing his Harvard PhD in the 1960s. He is a legend in the field and is widely credited as the father of the global marketing concept.

The 7th edition of his leading text does not disappoint the demanding reader and carries on the tradition of earlier editions. He walks the talk, writing for and speaking to a global audience. It is clear that he is one who has "been there" and knows international markets.

The book presents a very sound basis for learning and is a leading text for full courses in global marketing in many leading MBA programs. It also enjoys a large readership by business execs around the world.

"Global Marketing" opens with a very sound introduction to global marketing analysis and strategy. The international trading environment is well described and the text simplies the complexity of international trading blocs, the WTO, and other influences on marketing strategy today.

Keegan's global marketing texts have always been strong on introducing readers to technical terms used in international trade and exporting and explaining the flow of paperwork (i.e., letters of credit, etc.) one encounters in international trade. This current edition does not disappoint in this regard.

There is a good introduction to factors that motivate consumers and customers to choose and use products that is applicable in consumer, business, services, and high technology markets. The book finishes with a very sound coverage of the marketing mix (i.e., product, price, promotion, and distribution) strategies.

A number of case studies are well integrated into the text to illustrate typical business decisions global marketers must make. I have prescribed this text for more than a decade and it always has been rated as the best or among the best textbooks prescribed for our marketing courses.

clear, understandable jargon

Marketing concepts are explained within global marketing frame in an understandable manner using the jargon everybody can understand. The principles that each company must take into account both at home and abroad are revealed. Especially, I liked "18 Guiding Principles of the Marketing Company". Articles from the scholars at prestigious business schools are related to global marketing concepts in most understandable way. This makes the book richer. Another thing making the book richer is Global Income and Population estimates, that is both put inside the text and at the end of the book as appendix. These estimates give clear grasp to the reader about world demographics and economic structure, and helps reader understand the subject at hand and, in general, world dynamics better. Interesting and information & expertise-loaded cases differentiates the book from other boring textbooks. The future of global marketing section of the book gives the reader an invaluable horizon. I suggest that you read it carefully, you will get too many things from it.

About the Author

Qiuju Sun, PhD, is a professor in the College of Chemistry and Life Science at Shenyang Normal University and the director of Shenyang Key Laboratory of the advanced materials preparation and application at Shenyang Normal University. She earned her PhD at Northeastern University, China. She has been working at Shenyang Normal University since 1991. Her main research fields are liquid crystal polymers and polymer-matrix composites. She has more than 30 journal-published papers and patents.

Wu Li, PhD, is a research fellow and PhD supervisor of Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He earned his PhD from Lanzhou University. His research centers on inorganic whisker materials and comprehensive utilization of salt lake brines.

About the Author
Phil Woodward was born in 1962 in Ipswich, England. After studying Statistics and Mathematics at Brunel University he joined Rolls-Royce in Derby as a statistician in their Nuclear Division. During this time he studied part-time towards a research degree in which he was introduced to the Bayesian paradigm by the late John Naylor and Sir Adrian Smith. Phil then worked for the now defunct Lucas Automotive Company, initially as the Company Statistician but also in various Quality Management roles. Since 1997 Phil Woodward has worked for Pfizer R&D in the UK. He is currently the Global Head of PharmaTherapeutics Statistics, leading the support to the research and development of new medicines from early in the discovery process up to the first studies in patients. He is the creator of the Excel GUI for WinBUGS, BugsXLA, that greatly simplifies the analysis of data using Bayesian methods. Phil is also an active member of the Royal Statistical Society: he was the 2008 Royal Statistical Society's Guy Lecturer for schools, and is a current member of the Editorial Board of its flagship magazine, Significance. In 2011 he was given the inaugural RSS/PSI award for Statistical Excellence in the Pharmaceutical Industry for "a portfolio-wide implementation of a Bayesian framework for early clinical development within a major pharmaceutical company."

An excellent book, although I am not sure one can make Bayesian simple!

The author has created a freely available software download that, together with this book, provide a quick an easy route to implementing a Bayesian analysis. But beware, being able to run a Bayesian analysis simply is not the same as being able to determine the most appropriate analysis simply. To be fair to the author, he makes this clear in the introduction, with the aim of the book not being to explain the theory underpinning the Bayesian approach in any depth, but how to implement it, given you know what you want to do. The great strength of the book is the numerous case studies used to show how a broad range of model types can be easily fitted using the author's software (which itself uses WinBUGS as the computing engine). These case studies are used to illustrate a range of practical issues that can arise in a Bayesian analysis, with sound advice on how to act in each case.

I would highly recommend this book, and the accompanying software, but you will need to look elsewhere for the knowledge needed to fully understand the Bayesian approach to statistical inference. For those who learn best by application, this book and software, in combination with a text that teaches the theory, would be an excellent place to start. For those in the know and who just want a quick way to implement a Bayesian analysis, this book and software are perfect.
