I studied my Bible wrong for the first 10 years of my Christian life because the center of the studying process was Mark Virkler's brain, rather than revelation and insight from the Holy Spirit. I didn't do what King David did. He said his thoughts were troubling until he came into the sanctuary of the Lord, then he perceived (Ps. 73:17). Wow! He stepped beyond his own thinking, and came into God's presence, and then experienced perception, Holy Spirit revelation.

I didn't approach Scripture with a listening heart for the first 10 years of my Christian life because I didn't believe God was speaking anymore, so Bible study needed to be all about me and my efforts. Yuck!

Then I discovered that the verse in the King James Bible which says, "Study to show yourself approved..." (2 Tim 2. 15) was more correctly translated in the New King James Version as, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God..." This was the only command in the Bible to study, and they dropped the word "study" and replaced it with diligence, which of course is an attitude of your heart, not a function of your brain!

Do you know how much I hate memorizing and living mistranslations of the Greek! A lot! So what is God's better idea? It is to let Him reveal truth to our hearts as He opens Scriptures to us. The disciples on the Emmaus road said, "were not our hearts burning within us as He opened Scriptures to to us (Lk. 24:32)." Got it! So this is my current approach to Scripture. Invite God, through His Holy Spirit, who is at my side to reveal insights from Scripture to my heart (Eph. 1:17,18), and for revelation to burn in my heart also, every time I open the Bible. And I do mean every time. Why not. He is always at my side (Acts 2:25). Why wouldn't I invite him to be part of the exploratory process?

If I invite the Holy Spirit into the process, it is called meditation, a word which shows up about 60 times in the Bible, and is translated in various ways. Meditation is a word which means I study the Bible in the presence of God, asking for revelation from the Holy Spirit, so that God gets to speak afresh to my heart every morning as I walk with Him in the cool of the day. Wow! Restoration to the Garden of Eden, to daily walks and talks with the God of the Universe, my Father, who loves to reveal Himself to me.

Tell me, isn't that much better than me studying the Bible on my own? I sure think so! So in this booklet we show you what the Bible says about meditation. What it is? How it is done? Only An Outline With Notes

I don't know if this is a problem with the Kindle edition but the book had nearly no narrative. It was mainly an outline - like notes a student would take while listening in class. I couldn't get anything helpful from this book because it was in outline form.

About the Author
Mark Michaelis is the founder of IntelliTect (IntelliTect.com) and serves as the Chief Technical Architect and Trainer. Since 1996, he has been a Microsoft MVP for C#, Visual Studio Team System, and the Windows SDK and in 2007, he was recognized as a Microsoft Regional Director. He also serves on several Microsoft software design review teams, including C#, the Connected Systems, Office/SharePoint, and Visual Studio. Mark speaks at developer conferences and has written numerous articles and other books. Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology. When not bonding with his computer, Mark is busy with his family or training for another Ironman (having completed his first in 2008). Mark lives in Spokane, Washington, with his wife Elisabeth and three children, Benjamin, Hanna and Abigail.

Eric Lippert is a principal software design engineer at Microsoft. He has been working full time in the developer division since 1996, where he assisted with the design and implementation of VBScript, JScript, JScript .NET, Windows Script Host, Visual Studio Tools for Office and C#. A Great Place to Start .NET Development

If you are looking to get into .NET development, this book is a great place to start. This book will teach you all you need to know about C# development. It will provide C# beginners with a complete foundation on which to build other .NET skills like WPF, Windows 8 App Store, XAML, ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, etc. The book does not cover the libraries to implement these technologies, but that is a good thing. You should have a solid understand of C# before moving on to them.

I have read a lot of C# books that include coverage of the base class libraries, WPF, Windows Forms, and ASP.NET as the second half of the book. I have never bothered with those parts of the book unless I was simply looking for an introduction to a new technology. They are never covered in-depth enough to do them justice. By leaving them out of this book, the authors were able to provide deeper coverage of the C# 5.0 language.

One of the coolest things about this book is the 4 indexes. Not only is there a really nice complete index, the authors have also provided an index for .NET 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 topics to make it easier to find version specific topics.

Each chapter starts with a mind map that provides an at-a-glance view of the topics covered in the chapter. These give you a really nice view of what to expect from the chapter.

Each chapter is packed with sidebar coding guidelines containing dos, don'ts, considerations, and things to avoid for the topic at hand.

The authors also have included sections titled Beginner Topics and Advanced Topics. These are nice because it helps those just getting started to identify advanced topics that they can skip when just starting out, and it shows advanced readers what they can skip when delving into a topic.

They have also include something pretty cool they call Language Contrast sidebars. They identify key differences between C# and other languages. The languages include C++, Java, and Visual Basic .NET.

Although the things I mentioned above add tremendous value to the book, the best the about the book is the author's writing styles. Both of them write in a way that makes the book interesting and easy to read. The flow of topics are very logical making the book easy to read cover to cover, but it is also a great reference. The indexes I have mentioned above really help make this fast and easy to use reference.

The only ding I will give this book is the download for the sample code is not complete. Mark (one of the authors) says on his site you can email him to request individual samples. I had emailed him asking where the download was because I couldn't find it the second time I looked for it, and got back a response that he is travelling until February. I was looking for the download because I noticed samples missing and wanted to see if there was a more complete version available. There are projects for the samples that are missing, but they are just empty. The author's should take the time to fix this. Either delete the empty projects, or complete them. They should also include a read me file explaining the missing samples are intentionally missing.

The missing source code does not take any value away from the book. They are complete in the book and are small. It was just a bit confusing.

Over all I highly recommend this book to all levels of C# developers. I will definitely be keeping this book by my side.

I wish I read that book when I was learning programming as a kid

I got the hard copy of the book as soon as it was available. Pre-ordered it actually, here on Amazon. I must say, I'm not a beginner in C#, and out of the entire book I wasn't familiar with, perhaps, a sixth. However, I read all of it for the technical details in the advanced sections throughout the book, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I can also recommend it to beginners, because they will be put on the right track right away. The authors talk about C# language itself, but also on how to write and structure your code.
Every chapter has DOs and DON'Ts which make a lot of sense to me now, after years of professionally coding. I wish I read that book when I was learning programming as a kid.

One hell of a reference book YOU MUST HAVE!!

This book is absolutely amazing!! I would give it a five star if it only had review questions at the end of each chapter, especially about guidelines.

Most programming books are concerned with the language they are discussing, forgetting that knowing the language alone does not qualify you as a good Programmer. This book is written in a style I have never seen before and I have read a lot, I mean a lot of programming books (in fact, everything I know about programming is from reading books).

The book starts off discussing a topic, explains the topic in detail and then goes into specifics about best practices and how to avoid breaking guidelines that may negatively affect your code.

If you are a Programmer, beginner, intermediate or professional, you should own this book.

I just wish they added review questions.

About the Author
Nancy Tucker is a 21-year-old author and nanny. She suffered from both anorexia and bulimia nervosa throughout her teens, but is now on the road to recovery and began a degree at Oxford University to study Experimental Psychology in 2015. She lives in Oxford and London.

August has been an interesting month because I’ve started quite a few wonderful books, only to discontinue them halfway through. I can be a picky, fickle reader when I have an overabundance of reading material. That’s ironic, isn’t it?

I started Nancy’s memoir at work to get through a slow couple of hours, and was immediately entranced by the rawness of her literary voice. I still find it hard to believe that she was only twenty-one when she penned her memoir. In it she documents her life growing up in a lower middle class, blended family in London. Throughout her childhood, she’s plagued with the need to excel at all things and be perfect. Eventually this perfectionism ideation turns inward, when she realizes that all of her friends are smaller in size when compared to herself.

Nancy doesn’t glamorize her disorder or take the “woe is me” approach. Instead she offers a glimpse into her troubled mind, the voices that propel her to deny her body of nutrients, and the devastating effects this has on herself and those who love her. I especially understood her desire to come to terms with how something as harmless as “the diet” evolved into such a dangerous journey, and how recovery isn’t always linear.

"Recovery is recognising that some things have a place, but most do not; that, at any one time, some things will be in their place, but most will not – and that in these times there will still be a world which turns and a soul in your body and people who love you."

Euro Beer styles

This is an excellent book to familiarize yourself with the technical specs of european beer styles. Have you ever wondered what was the definition of a kolsch or a lambic, this book will tell you. sadly it was written in the nineties so the american beer information is woefully out of date having missed the second wave of american craft brewing. Though since the traditional european styles are just that traditional it will help you get a firm grasp on the various beer styles found throughout europe, which will definitely come in handy if you're studying for a cicerone certification. Lots of pictures and small type make it a bit of a slog to read but it makes up for it by being densely packed with technical information.

Good Coffee Table Material

This book is really in depth about beer of all types from all places. It is a great book to put on your coffee table and let your guests thumb through it. It would probably also be a good book to just read, although I haven't been through it cover to cover to verify that. The only drawback is that it is a little dated. The beer world has changed significantly since the craft beer revolution, which this predates. Still, there is a wealth of information that is and always will be relevant and interesting.

Mandy Concepcion has worked in the automotive field for over 21 years. He holds a Degree in Applied Electronics Engineering as well as an ASE Master & L1 certification. For the past 16 years he has been exclusively involved in the diagnosis of all the different electronic systems found in today's vehicles. It is here where he draws extensive practical knowledge from his experience and hopes to convey it in his books. Mandy also designs and builds his own diagnostic equipment, DVD-Videos and repair software.

Not very helpful

Be aware that this book is only 65 pages. That's not much info for a relatively high cost.

The material as presented is useful and clear. This book covers only the actual sensors involved however. It seems to be part of a larger series. For the money, I would look for a more comprehensive book.

Good stuff, very informational, but not for beginners. You have got to know more than how to change your oil and add air to make it through this some-what above average technical jargon. And I mean that in a good way.
