SHE WAS A FRIEND OF MINE. WHY???

I could not put this book down. I had to see what was going to happen. I was so excited when Sabrina met Tim. But when she caught pushing Tasha on him I knew what was going to happen I just didn’t know when. I was on pins and needles waiting for them to hook up. Sabrina was a hot mess but I know plenty hot messes. I knew this book was just fiction but when I was reading it, it was like I was right there with popcorn and Raisinets. So much drama, loved it. This isn’t my first book by this author but it is my favorite thus far.

overkill and errors

I think that the author should get an editor for future books. It is distracting to see so many errors. I also had a hard time with the justification for Sabrina's abhorrent behavior. She wasn't abandoned, abused or neglected, yet she had "daddy issues." That's an insult to those that truly are dealing with daddy issues. And finally, the being a doormat for friends and lovers alike was overkill. It's hard to make a reader dislike a character that is supposed to be the protagonist, but I was almost there by the end of the book. Please don't lay it on so thick in future books.

Don't get fooled by the free sample. It starts out really good but fizzles out quick once you actually buy the book

For a book that cost 3.99 it sure did have a lot of editing errors. I was hooked after reading the sample but half way through the book the characters really started getting on my nerves. Especially Tasha, whom for all intents and purposes is supposed to be "the good friend". In essence she is just a martyr and a doormat. She allows Sabrina to boss her around and she stays in a relationship with a man who obviously doesn't love her and is using her for three years, while she is lusting after her friend's husband. The author also needs to do a better job of describing her characters looks. All I know about Sabrina was that she was beautiful and had brown eyes. Tasha had thick hair and green eyes. Tim had brown hair (I think) and grey eyes? But how tall were they? what body type did they have? I felt as if I was reading about a bunch of faceless people. For a book that was 220 pages it sure did dragggggg big time towards the end. This was my first and will most assuredly be the last book I read by this author.

The pictures in the book are great to have

The pictures in the book are great to have. The list of all the men who contributed to the different quartet through the years has lots of valuable information. I have been a fan since 1956 and it is so good to see the guys are still together in sound at least. Miss all the old timers, but enjoy the saved sound. Each time they come to Largo Florida we are there to see them.

The manual had over 75% of it highlighted by the previous owner of the book and the answers were written out to most of the chapter questions. Not only was this very distracting but unsure if the written out answers were correct or not. A very used manual for the price. This information was not disclosed.

As you work your way through this book, imagine yourself certified, hired, and on duty for your very first shift. You have just been dispatched to the community pool. There are reports of a fire in a

Preparing for Success on the NREMT Certification Exam 1

Serving the public as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is among today’s most rewarding careers. The overwhelming majority of states in the U.S. require that you pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam to become certified and work as an EMT. Certification through the NREMT indicates that you have demonstrated entry-level competency as an EMT.

The NREMT certification exam is a “pass/fail” test. Its purpose is not to identify who is the “best,” but to identify who is “competent.” Your future patients don’t care what you scored on your certification exam. They care about receiving competent and compassionate care for themselves and those they care about. This Crash Course gives you the essential information you need to prepare for the NREMT certification exam.

THE EXAM

The NREMT exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT). The test tailors itself to your individual abilities. The exam delivers questions one at a time and the questions are not randomly chosen. While you are taking the test, the software that drives the test is estimating your ability level. The ability estimate gets more and more precise as the exam progresses. The exam ends when there is a 95% certainty that your demonstrated competency is above or below the passing standard.

TOPICS COVERED ON THE EXAM

Your NREMT exam will have between 70 and 120 questions and you will have two hours to complete the test. All of the questions will be multiple-choice and each question will have 4 answer choices. You need to choose the “best” answer for the question posed.

The exam will broadly cover the content of the 2009 National EMS Education Standards (NEMSES). Topics will include airway, oxygenation, ventilation, cardiology, resuscitation, stroke, trauma,�medical emergencies, obstetrics, gynecology, and EMS operations.

Here are the percentages for the topics found on the exam.

Trauma 19–23%
Medical and OB/GYN 27–31%
EMS operations 12–16%

For all but EMS operations, 85% of the questions relate to adult patients and 15% relate to pediatric patients. Although not separate categories, topics such as patient assessment and safety will be emphasized throughout the test.

SCORING
Typically, you can retrieve your score from the NREMT website 24 hours after you complete the exam. If you fail the exam, the NREMT will provide some detailed information about your performance on each of the exam categories. Candidates must wait at least 14 days before taking the test again.

STANDARDS
Like the NREMT certification exam, the information in this publication is based on the 2009 National EMS Education Standards and the 2010 American Heart Association CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care Guidelines. This Crash Course will help you become familiar with these standards before taking the certification exam. GENERAL TEST-TAKING TIPS & STRATEGIES

BEFORE THE TEST

• Eat a balanced meal and get plenty of rest.

• Don’t cram. Your preparation should end (not begin) the day before the test.

• Avoid caffeine, energy drinks, excess sugar, etc. These will not improve your performance or steady your nerves.

• Study regularly over an extended period before the test.

• Know exactly where the test center is and plan to arrive a few minutes early. Remember, you must have an appointment to take the test. Bring two forms of photo ID.

• The testing center may be cold. Bring something warm in case you need it.

DURING THE TEST

• You cannot skip a question or come back to it later. You must answer each question before the next one will be provided.

• Read the whole question thoroughly at least a couple of times and formulate the answer in your head before you look at the answer choices. If you see a similar answer choice, that’s probably the correct response.

• There are four answer choices. Two of them can often be eliminated after reading the question thoroughly.

• When you get stuck, look for key words in the question and re-read the answer choices. When in doubt, lean towards the more aggressive treatment. For example, if you are not sure whether you should ventilate the patient or just administer oxygen, choose to ventilate.

• Do not complicate scenario-based questions. Do not bring elements into the questions that are not there.

• Relax! Remember, everyone is going to feel like the test is extremely challenging. Everyone is going to miss a lot of questions. This does NOT mean you are failing.

Best EMT review book

I took my emt course a year and a half ago, and for various reasons didn't get a chance to take the written exam. When I took the written exam for the first time a few months back, I failed it- I didn't have time to fully prepare for it even though I did lots of practice tests.

I bought this book a week before my second attempt and I have to say it was the main reason why I passed the second time. It served as an excellent study guide, helping me review the most important and essential information. I am so glad I found this book!

BUY THIS BOOK

So here's what my situation was- I (stupidly) waiting about 6 months after I had finished taking the EMT class before I tried to take the test for the first time, and I barely studied at all. I figured I could just reason my way through the questions and get a passing score. Boy was I wrong. My test shut off after 70 questions, which means you either did REALLY good or REALLY bad. Turns out it was really bad. I failed every section except for one. So then due to a busy schedule, I wasn't able to attempt the test again until 5 months after that. That's when I decided to give this book a try. About a week before my test I started reading through it, breaking it up into small sections for each day. I didn't make note cards or use the note card app, but I did read it very carefully to be sure I was absorbing the material. Then the night before my test I took the provided online practice test. This test felt very easy (I think I got like 86% correct) so I was feeling pretty confident. The next morning I take my test and I felt like I was absolutely bombing it. There were questions coming out of left field that were never mentioned in the class or this book. And then, once again, it shut off at 70 questions. As you can imagine I wasn't feeling particularly confident at that time, but the next day I checked the website to see that coveted "Congratulations" message. I passed! Not only did I pass, I killed it. My point- Buy this book. It has everything that you need to pass the test no matter your starting point. My advice for the test- Make sure you know the patient assessment procedure like the back of your hand, know your ABC's (or CAB if the patient is unresponsive), know the normal vital signs, know the 6 or so medications detailed in the book, and know the most important medical conditions (shock, stroke, burns, anaphylaxis, etc) and you will be good to go. No matter how well you know your stuff, you're going to walk out feeling like you failed. The test is designed to make you feel this way. So don't stress out. Read this book, read it again, and go pass that test

Excellent NREMT study/review material

I purchased this book toward the end of my EMT class to help me prepare for the NREMT exam. This isn't for you if you need handholding to understand EMS logic and prehospital care in general, but if you just need to review facts and formulas this book is great. Definitely made my study time more effective. There were several questions on the test I was able to answer correctly only because of this book. I'll be keeping it on hand for continuous review and refreshment, too. Highly recommended.

During an emergency, Trent’s over-protective instincts kick in when he believes Shawn is in harm’s way. Hot First Responders!

Excellent fast paced read. I love firemen and policemen and stories involving them. I like how there was a deeper thread than just the two guys hooking up. It made the story more interesting. It had me guessing throughout the book and that held my interest. I'm reading for the next one in the series!

A good read.

How can I resist a story about a cop and a firefighter? Written by Morticia Knight, this is not the usual read about such men. Yes, there is romance. Yes, there is erotica (really HOT! you guys and gals!!!) and Yes, there is the drama of the suspense of a mystery the men had to help solve: the emergence of a hate-filled cult movement ironically called The Citizens Against Immorality.

Set in Sin City, Trent is a firefighter who had worked hard to get to where he was at now. He was respected, and he was a friend. He was also out and proud. The only thing that marred his reputation was his stoicism. He was a quiet man who never really showed how he felt or what he felt. His best friend from grade school knew him, though and that friend knew Trent was finally able to move on from his grieving. You see, Trent had lost the love of his life no thanks to a senseless crime. As a cop, his lover served and lost his life in the line of duty. Now that Trent was finally able to move on, the only thing in the way was that Shawn Everly was a cop, too.

Shawn had moved from LA because he needed not only to have a less stressful cop life dealing with the gangs of said city, but he also needed to get away from his family who barely tolerated him. Moving to Las Vegas was a decision he had thought about long and hard. Working in this land of lights was not as stressful, but he did have to deal with a lot of groping, women in barely there wear, men glittering gold, and a firefighter who set his blood to boil.

There is angst, there is drama, there is action, mystery and thrill. This is a complete package that reads fast with a high entertainment value. Although Trent did surprise me a bit as the story developed but it was a surprise I really wanted to happen. This man needed to heal and he did it through sheer force of will and facing up to his demons. Loving Shawn was difficult for his fears that this man may be violently taken away from him, just like before, was eating at him. The way both men approached the healing, now that was the part I really loved. There were no miracles happening here, there were no instant gratifications. And that for me, is what makes a good read.

Good Reading

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas where the party never ends and danger lurks around every corner. Enter Officer Shawn Everly, a recent transfer to the LVMPD and assigned to foot patrol along the infamous Strip. When a drunk decides to take a dip in the lake at the Bellagio, Shawn comes face to face with the man he’s been dreaming of for months – fireman Trent Marhsall. Will sparks fly or will the two first responders fizzle out?

Shawn Everly is what I like in a man. He’s stable, he’s gorgeous, and he’s just alpha enough to get things done, but not so alpha that you want to kick him in the shin every time he opens his mouth. Considering he’s a cop, that last bit is a huge surprise. I love that he’s able to take the teasing, harassing, and everything else his partner and coworkers throw at him in stride. It says a lot about his character that he didn’t shoot any of them, especially after the embarrassing incident at the beginning of the story. He’s the exact kind of partner that Trent needs.

Now Trent Marshall, on the other hand, is a bit too alpha for my tastes. However, as you begin to become privy to his backstory, you begin to understand why he acts like he does. His overprotective streak borders on obsessiveness at times and it can be a real turn off. Thankfully, Shawn helps him come to terms with the loss of his former boyfriend, who was also a police officer. Once Shawn begins to cope with that, his domineering attitude loosens up somewhat, making him much more likable.

I will admit that as a local of this odd town, I was looking for inconsistencies or errors and I am happy to report that I didn’t find any. That always impresses me because it’s too easy to choose a city and make it up as you go along, but in this case, I was able to easily picture where Shawn and Trent were at all times. The author obviously did her research and it shows.

All Fired Up is an extremely sexy and sweet story about two first responders who can’t get enough of each other. It’s a very real example of how hard it is to work as either a police officer or fireman and how much harder it is to love someone who is either. It’s a great introduction into a new series and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Knight has in store for us next.

Some 50 species, some prospering and some endangered. And Bambi is as dangerous as many terrorist groups.

This really is an answer guide; written in the form of question and explanatory answer, it covers in one way or another all 50 species of deer (note: the 50 is approximate, the full taxonomy is still in process). The author has a great deal of experience with whitetail deer so much of the discussion is based on that and extrapolated to deer more generally. The writing is generally good, although in spots a bit stiff. The text has a lot of informative black and white photos, with an excellent selection of color photos at the end--I'd suggest starting with those in order to better see the wide variety of deer.

All deer have antlers (except for the Chinese water deer) which are shed once a year. The book has an excellent section on antlers, the clearest I've red anywhere. Antlers can grow an inch a day, and may weigh more than 70 pounds (moose). Deer vary in weight from under 20 pounds (the pudu, a South American deer) to 1,700 plus (moose). Among other details the book provides, deer have two kinds of cones in their eyes and so see in combinations of those, limited color vision compared to people (who have three kinds of cones in the eye), but they have better hearing and sense of smell. Some species have vocalizations, and not just males during the rut. All species seem to have communication by chemical means, with special glands of several kinds producing the scents used to mark. Deer potentially can live longer than most do--in hunted populations a deer doesn't often survive to age 6. Moose and elk can make it past 25.

Deer are problems. Aside from exploding populations in some places, they can damage ornamental plantings, harm valuable timber (when trees are small), and strip ecosystems bare for forage. They are also dangerous in a way. In the USA there are 1.5 million deer/car crashes per year, at a cost of billions of dollars in car damage, 30,000 human injuries and 200 deaths. Europe adds 500,000 such crashes per year, with additional billions and injuries and 300 or so fatalities. In that sense Bambi causes more harm than most other "natural" factors. Deer can carry diseases that are dangerous to livestock, and Lyme Disease can infect humans. There has been the recent rise of a wasting disease, apparently not communicable to humans, called Chronic Wasting Disease, CWD, which acts on deer much like mad cow disease does on cattle.

Deer can be assets, too, calculated primarily in terms of hunting. The book cites about $25 billion per year spent by hunters on gear, guns, travel, permits and other things, with a figure nearly as high in Europe. The book's numbers need to be updated, but current figures will show much the same.

All the chapters are worthwhile, but I found the one on deer in art and literature especially interesting.

Wonderful and informative book about all species of deer in the world.

This is one wonderful and informative book about all species of deer in the world for the animal enthusiast, hunter etc. If you want to know about the habits of deer and the different breeds the world over, this is the book for you to read. I’m so glad that I purchased it. At 163 pages, there is an index, black and white sketches and color photos. There is so much for one to learn here. Examine a deer’s form and function, their behavior, ecology, reproduction, foods and feeding, interaction between deer and humans and more. Learn how many kinds of deer there are in existence. What is the difference between bucks, stags and bulls? How high can deer jump? How fast can deer run? Why do female caribou usually have antlers? Are deer social? If deer interest you and you want to learn more without reading several books or doing a search on the internet, this is the one for you.
Overall, this is an excellent book about deer and I highly recommend it without hesitation. Did you know that elk and caribou are deer? Neither did I. Well written and filled with lots of information in such a few pages, you couldn’t find a better resource.
